Gene Simmons Family Jewels

I stumbled across the tv show Gene Simmons Family Jewels awhile ago and started DVR-ing it. It is pretty much like "Meet The Osbournes", but with Gene Simmons (of KISS fame) and his family - wife Shannon, ex-Playboy model, and kids Nick and Sophie. Some shows are better than others - I like the ones that seem a little more real and less goofy and/or staged. The kids are great - really funny and down to earth, for the most part. I particularly liked the episode where Nick was rehearsing with his band and Gene kept interrupting - Nick was really embarrassed. Then Gene proceeded to book a show for Nick's band, who had only had minimal rehearsal. In typical over-the-top fashion, Gene advertised the show with an airplane banner ad. Again, Nick - totally embarrassed.

Tortellini Soup...Simply YUM.

This recipe for "Cheese Tortellini in a Light Broth" is from the show Everyday Italian on the Food Network. It is the easiest thing in the world to make and is so very, very good. Try it! Next time I'll make the parmesan crisps to go with it, as suggested in the recipe. C6 really enjoyed it, but he wasn't crazy about the parsley. He is VERY into salt and pepper though.

Dudes. Awhile ago, I wrote about how I'm all back into watching 24 after my hiatus from watching. Well - awhile back, C5 and I missed a week, and we've been trying to catch up - we save the episodes on comcast dvr. We like to watch it together. Rather, I INSIST we watch it together, cuz I get too NERDVOUS otherwise. Anyhoo...tonight I went to play the episode from a couple of weeks ago and it had mysteriously disappeared from our list. Oops. Perhaps I erased it, or maybe C6, endlessly fascinated with the remote, did it in. Oh no! How will we ever catch up, missing an episode???! Not to worry. I'm tellin' ya, I soooo worked the internets in a jiffy this evenin' - within 5 minutes after our "where's that episode?" dilemma, we were up and running, watching the missed show. (Secretly? I was thinking I was all CTU-n-stuff.) I was happy with how quickly it loaded, and it was better quality than expected. Yippee! Hurrah for instant gratification.

Now that C6 is into more adventuring, and so am I, I'm looking for more stuff for us to do together. I like music. He likes music. We did a Gymboree music class last year and that was okay, but that's not really the kind of music either of us adore. A couple of weeks ago I came across an article on Baby Loves Disco, which is a dance party held at rockclubs during the daytime for toddlers & their parents to get their groove on. There are venues throughout the country that hold these monthly events. It sounds like fun, though I'm searching for the rock alternative to the disco music. Anyhoo, we were planning to go to the next one. Then, yesterday's Boston Globe ran an article on it. I thought "uh oh...now I'm never gonna get tix!" and sure nuff, the next 2 months are already sold out! That'll learn me for taking my time.

I just came across something that sounds so perfect...but too far away for us to really be part of. It is a cable access tv show based in Washington DC called Pancake Mountain. And it looks so AWESOME. It's a kiddie indie rock dance party tv show, with really great bands performing!!! Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, X, Kaiser Chiefs, Buzzcocks, Garbage, Subways, Undertones, Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins, Flaming Lips...WOW!!! I'll check to see if it is on in the Boston area. I just ordered a DVD! I

I am currently obsessing over The Ace Of Cakes, a show on the Food Network about a group of kickass cakemakers in Baltimore. I'd love to work there. I mean, if I knew how to bake and decorate cakes. (Though C6 and I made some pretty amazing cupcake guys last week.)

This morning C6 couldn't get enough of "Twiggy Twiggy" by Pizzicato Five. Also, he can't get enough of that periscope amplifier thing on Teletubbies. What do you call that thing??? Lastly, he has been jiving of late to "The Ticket Was Non-Refundable" by Ad Frank. Our choreography is gettin' quite elaborate!
