Here is Social Distortion performing their new song "Far Behind". I heard it on Sunday and it has been stuck in my head. I hadn't heard it before, and I didn't know they had a new album out. Well, they don't have a NEW album out per se, but they do have a "Greatest Hits" album that just came out, with one new song on it. And this is that song. Classic sounding Social D!
In addition to C6's imaginary friends Dieter and Yun Yun, we now have Boing Punk and Pipetty (pronounced PIPE-etty). They are a hilarious bunch! Here they are, hangin' out at the park.
My Bento Hero, Biggie, tells us that, come November, we'll be able to buy Bento stuff online at (hopefully) more reasonable prices. "Ichiban Kan, a rocking Japanese-style dollar store in the San Francisco Bay Area tells me that they’re going to open an online store in November 2007 that will sell inexpensive bento gear...Most products are US$1 to $1.50 in the store; we’ll see how they price things online. I hope they’ll give us a nice break from those sky-high eBay prices (not to mention shipping from Japan — ugh)!" Woo hoo!
C6 likes to make a map of the "T" (Boston subway system) with pipecleaners:
And he likes to make an elevator in the hallway, sticking up guitar picks with poster putty for buttons: In the above photo, C6 is wearing one of my fave shirts - it is a picture of his stomach, with a sleeping (or dead) ice cream cone in it!
This is me, all Simpson-ized! Make one yourself at the Simpsons Movie Website. (Click on "Create Your Simpsons Avatar" at the top of the page and get to it. I don't know if there's an easier way to save the character you create- I took a screen shot and then opened it in Photoshop to crop it.)
C6 and I love the book "Mangia! Mangia!" by Amy Wilson Sanger. We got it around the time we got the Sushi book by the same author. These books are so much fun.
Anyhoo, one of the pages of "Mangia! Mangia!" is about antipasti, and it mentions "prosciutto wrapped melone". C6 was curious about this, so we decided to make some prosciutto wrapped melone ourselves. We picked up a nice ripe cantaloupe and a few slices of prosciutto at the market.
Here is where it became UNINTENTIONAL MESSY DAY! (Bonus!)
I cut the melon in half and let C6 scoop out all the seeds and "guts" into a bowl. We started with spoons but of course that wasn't going to last - it was full-on HANDS-ON! Wow. This was a whole lotta fun. He remembered when we made jack-o-lanterns for Hallowe'en and compared it to that. Even after we finished getting all the gunk out of the cantaloupe and into the bowl, we just squooshed around in the seeds and stuff. Y'know, just for fun. Squooshy, squooshy, fun. Instant Messy Day! (At least he didn't try to make a "cantaloupe guts angel" on the floor.)
After Squooshfest 2007, I sliced the cantaloupe and removed the rind. C6 helped wind slices of prosciutto around the melon. The kid loved the prosciutto, not so wild about the cantaloupe this time around (though he likes it). I suppose he was all cantalouped out by that point!
Knock Knock! Who's there? Cantaloupe! Cantaloupe who? Cantaloupe tonight, Dad has the car!
Oh! I totally forgot to show yez our bear and bunnie Bento eggs. Here they are in all their eggy glory. How eggs-citing! We just love to MUNCH ON THEIR HEADS.
The other day, C6 and I caught a little snippet of a preview for a new show called Yo Gabba Gabba. It looks like it could be either really great or really bad – I can't tell! But Biz Markie is on it, as well as Paul Frank's Julius the Monkey - so it can't be THAT bad. (Can it?) Also, the list of musical guests is suprisingly decent! I've got my fingers crossed...
This is from the Yo Gabba Gabba Wikipedia entry: Yo Gabba Gabba! will be hosted by a character named DJ Lance Rock, and five toy monsters: Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee. It will also feature The MC Bat Commander and Ricky Fitness, two members of The Aquabats, and Adam Deibert (formerly of the Aquabats) as the voice of Muno the Cyclops. Seen in the trailer are guest stars such as "the Clown Prince of Hip-Hop" Biz Markie, and designer Paul Frank's corporate mascot "Julius the Monkey". The show will also feature a wide variety of musical guests: Supernova, The Shins, The Aggrolites, Shiny Toy Guns, Mark Mothersbaugh, Rahzel, Sugarland, Mýa, and Cornelius have all been confirmed to appear in the first season.
P.S. While writing this entry, the Yo Gabba Gabba preview came on tv and C6 turned it off. So I suppose that is his review of this show. HAHRhHHER!!! "Shark Sandwich."
UPDATE: 7/20: This morning C6 caught a mere couple of seconds of another Gabba Gabba preview and he turned off the TV and said, "I DON'T YIKE DAT!" The boy knows what he likes (train stations, elevators, blueberries, orange sherbet) and what he doesn't like (black olives, staying still, Yo Gabba Gabba).
Um...umm....errrr....look for yourself. What's with the beret-wearin', flute-playin' dude hangin' out in the bathroom? And - sorry, but mixing clowns and potty training sounds like A Bad Idea to me. (link from Marquis Déjà Dû)
HAHrhhrh - have you seen this parody of Dora the Explorer? (It is not for th' kiddos) I think Robert Smigel has really captured the essence of Dora in 'Maraka', don't you?
Dudes? Come to my show Thursday evening, July 5th, at TT The Bears, Central Square, Cambridge, MA. It is one of my old bands - Miles Dethmuffen, later named PermaFrost. I have known these guys forever, and it is a pleasure to be in their company once again. Here's a silly PermaFrost interview , eons ago, from Lollipop magazine.
Audra Rox and The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, among others, will be playing Summertime Sunday afternoon shows at The Regattabar in Cambridge, MA. Just thought you'd like to know!
I have played bass in lots n lots of bands. Presently, I'm with Ad Frank & The Fast Easy Women! And the shipwrecked Frigate pulled up anchor & toured Europe this past summer - who knows what's next. Previously, I played with Well, Orbit, Helicopter Helicopter, Stars & Stripes, The 360's, PermaFrost, The Violet Crumbles, Miles Dethmuffen... blah blah blah..INFINITY! I like to play bass I suppose.
I have a husband (C5) and a 6 year old son (C6). They are both freakin' CUTE!
I ain't no writer...I just jabber about stuff I like and sometimes about stuff I don't. I'm not making any moolah from this gig. As a rocknroll bass player, I'm not unfamiliar with not making any moolah from a gig! (see, toldya I ain't no writer!) Anyway, if I recommend a product, music, band, whatever, surprise - it's because I like it. There ya go.
J. Mascis and the Fog: Everybody Lets Me Down (That's me appearing as "BassRockrrgrrrl" for a couple of seconds in this very cute video. Don't blink or you'll miss me! You can see me best when the song kicks in after the intro.)
